We recommend that you take us up on the offer of completely free samples delivered free to your door, for you to enjoy in the comfort of your own home.  Vanilla Wood Floors will send you up to 3 free wood samples of your choice, ant additional samples will be incur a 50p charge towards shipping costs.
 
What are Engineered Floors?
Engineered floors at Vanilla Wood Floors are made of of various layers of Birch wood 10 in number in a cross configuration, with a 5mm top layer of Solid Oak amounting to 20 mm in total.

There are some benefits compared to Solid Wood Floors, they tend to be stronger and better suited to kitchens and bathrooms where the humidity is greater.

They can be sanded up to 4 times and various stains and oil/waxes can be used on them to give a different appearance to suit the style of the surroundings. 
 
Do I have to be there when the goods are delivered?
Yes you do need to be there when the goods arrive, as it is your responsibility to arrange for the goods to moved from the area the courier unloads from the van. You will informed when the delivery will be with you. If you are not available to take delivery, the courier will return the goods to Vanilla Wood Floors and charges will be incurred. 
 
How secure is the payment method?
Vanilla Wood Floors use the most secure payment method on the web today, that being Barclay Card, it is recognised as the most efficient and most secure system covering both the customer and the supplier against fraud.
 
Are Solid Wood Floors healthy?
There has been various discussions in the flooring industry about the impact of carpets and PVC products on contributing to an unhealthy living enviroment. Solid wood floors are a natural product, they contain no gaseous toxins, they are easy to keep clean and thus become dust free.
 
What is the difference between wax/oils and lacquer?
Vanilla Wood Floors prefers using natural oil and wax products on its wood, but it is a personel preference.Most wood floors sold in the UK are laquered, giving a fine shine similar to gloss.

Oils and wax give a shine but slightly duller, it appears a more subtle effect, you do however need to maintain the floor coating if using oils and wax based products where as laquer finishes do not require attention other than regular cleaning.

Wood floors treated with oils and waxes can be repaired easily and without fuss unlike laquer coatings. 
 
What type of wood floor should I use in high volume areas?
There are variuos types of wood species all with different wood strengths, there is a recognised formula for measureing hardness called the Brinell and Janka hardness tests, see our hardness area in the information section.

Beech is the hardest wood species Vanilla Wood floors sells followed by Ash and Oak. We would recommend a Solid Beech Wood Floor in areas such as the Hall, corridors and kitchens.

What should I use under my wood floor?
When you decide to lay your wood floor you need to consider what type of surface you are laying it on. You should not lay a solid wood floor directly onto existing carpet or carpet underlay.

If you have a concrete floor a damp proof membrane should be used, it acts as a barrier against damp it also takes up the unevenness of the surface. The membrane also acts as an additional sound proof course.
 
What happens when the goods arrive?
The first thing to do when the delivery arrives is check the goods, make sure you are happy that no damage has occured during transit, either way you will have to sign for delivery by way of a delivery note. If the goods are damaged you need to clearly write down on the delivery note the damage details, you will have to write to us within 5 working days informing us of the damage. If the goods are free fom damage it is your responsibility to move the goods to your place of storage from the couriers drop down point. 
 
Can I lay the floor straight away once recieved?
Once you have recieved the delivery it should be placed in the enviroment it is to be laid for at least 7 days, this allows the wood to adjust to your air temperature and humidity.

When will my order be delivered?
If the goods are not available for immediate delivery we will inform you by email or phone you. In normal circumstances your order will be with you between 1 and 5 working days depending on your options.
